I was taking my daughter Laura to India for a 6-week holiday after her graduation from UCLA. I figured this would be the last time we would be able to travel together like this for a long time. And yes, were doing it on $40 per day. I know that sounds cheap but with $40 were “living large.” We met a couple from the UK that were couch surfing, Catherin and David that were traveling on $100 per week. No, I wouldn’t recommend that!
We had gone to Rajasthan for the Diwali festival and were now in North East. I had been here before in back in 2004 and you had to get special permission to travel to most of the states, now it was only Arunachal Pradesh and we had secured a permit to travel there before we left the US. The North East is a little traveled section of India above Bangladesh (at one point we went 7 days without seeing another travelers) and is embellished by its Asian influence. After being invited to wedding in Assam we headed north to see Kaziranga National Park, an animal reserve with over 2,400 one horned rhinos. You are able to get right next to them because you visit the park on elephant back.
Want to read the complete story? Someday it will be in my book!
